Hello, I’m Chris Staples. I’m a former NLMUSD School Board Member, representing Area 6.
I termed out in 2024 and I look forward to serving our students and parents for another 4 years.
I’m a husband, parent of four, friend, and business owner living in La Mirada since 2003.
My wife, Cindy, is also active in the community having worked at Meals on Wheels, serving our students as PTSA Presidents at Hutchinson and LMHS. We’ve been married 32 years! My two daughters, Katelyn and Allison, attended Gardenhill Elementary, Hutchinson Middle School, graduated from La Mirada High School, 2015 and 2019, respectively.
Katelyn received her BA English, Business Administration minor from University of La Verne and works in Quality Control at The Scanning Company. She is also a published author and poet! Katelyn also freelances as a researcher, and managed several brands as their social media content creator.
Allison, who was very active at LM with El Toro Newspaper and played volleyball all four years under Coach Reich, graduated Clark University in 2023, cum laude BA Geography, 2024 Masters in Community Planning and Development is currently a Program Supervisor at Safe Homes. She works with under-served youth in Worcester, MA.
My oldest son James is a Logistics Manager for a company in Tusla, OK, and my youngest son, Conner will be a Senior at LMHS, focusing on Engineering. Both of my sons like to work with their hands, are tech savvy, and think outside the box. As their Dad, I recognize my children have their own academic and personal strengths with varied interests: animation, writing, reading, art, Legos, science, math, botany, social justice and traveling. They are all huge animal lovers, evident with the number of cats we’ve had over the decades (one doggy, Ms. Po is 13).

I’ve been doing IT Consulting for over 30 years, and have had my own business since 2002. I’m also managing partner in another business. When we moved to La Mirada in September 2003, I joined the La Mirada Chamber of Commerce and met many clients, business associates, and friends through my involvement in the Chamber. I served in the La Mirada Chamber Board of Directors 2004-2010, and as La Mirada Chamber of Commerce President 2006-2007.
I decided to join Kiwanis as I loved how the La Mirada members are so passionate, dedicated, and giving of their time and talents. Kiwanis serves the children in our community, and I enjoy giving back through fun events such as Duck Race, the fireworks booth, and the Christmas Shopping Spree. I’ve served on the Kiwanis board for several years and currently, I serve as President until September 2026.
All my community involvement leaves very little time for actual hobbies, but I do enjoy working on home projects and woodworking. My wife likes to travel and can occasionally convince me to tag along. I do like to spend my free time helping others and volunteering. I enjoying giving back and providing students the opportunities and support I did not have in my youth.

Why I am running for NLMUSD School Board:
I have always believed that you send your children to your local schools. Education is a partnership between the parents, teachers and school staff. For the past 23 years I have been involved on many of our campuses and it is my belief that if there is something lacking or can be done better, then you do not move to a different school, you step up and make things better.
When I completed my board tenure in 2024, I still stayed involved as Chair of the Oversight Committee, attending school events, donating books to our elementary schools and The Very Berry Library, and keeping in touch with our educators and district staff. I believe you treat everyone with respect, remembering that as an NLMUSD Board Member, you serve the students, parents, and community to the best of your abilities.
